Another Writer Wars Post

Great job with last week's responses everyone! I thought they were all very creative and interesting takes on the prompt. Since it is a writer WAR there will be points awarded for each time you post a response to the prompt. One point will be awarded per story response, and at the end of the year the points will be tallied up and the person or persons with the most points will claim the award of Writer Wars Victor! This entails bragging rights and an internet trophy! As you can see the stakes are high so POST! Here are the current points:
Sam: 1
Rachel: 1
Jeff: 1
Bre: 1
Joe: 1

As you can see there is currently a 5 way tie so it is still anybody's game! If you haven't posted yet you still have a chance, get posting!

Here is this week's prompt:

Write a short story (400 words or less) about a character who is trapped on an island with his/her worst enemy.

Good Luck!

Announcing Family Movie Night

NOT EXCEPTING ANY MORE MOVIE SUBMISSIONS AT THIS TIME - we have 175 suggested movies!!! - THANK YOU!!!
Hello Family Writer(ing?) War Members,

This post is announcing the official Family Writer War Movie Night.   This is how it's going to work:
Everyone who wants to participate should suggest movies in the comments section below.  When you suggest a movie, you should follow the name with a special character to ID that it is a nominee for one of the following categories:
  • (C) - Classic, if you feel the movie is a classic, something everyone should see, then mark the movie name with a (C).  It does not have be in black and white, it does not have to be a drama, it can be modern or old, funny or serious.
  • (I) - I Like It/ I Want to See It, if you think the movie isn't a classic, but it's something you like (or think you will like) that's cool too, just mark it with an (I).
  • (B) - Bad movie, but one that is --->fun<--- to watch.  If you have a bad movie, that cracks you up, and you feel the need to torture others with a viewing, then add it to the list, but make sure we know what we're getting in to and mark it with a (B).
Each month, we will roll a die to figure out which category we're going to draw from. Then all the movies, from the comments, that match that category, will be added to the official Conductor Hat of Movie Selection.  One movie will be randomly selected and that movie will be known as the FWWMM or F2W2M or The Family Writing(er?) War Movie of the Month.

The winning movie will be posted on the blog, so that everyone can see it and post their reviews in the comments section.

NOTE: If you pick a movie, and it is selected as the monthly movie, you MUST watch it that month.  If you do not, we will know and we will find you.  When we find you, if the movie was bad, we WILL turn you into a snail.  Don't be turned into a snail, watch the movie if you picked it. And if  your movie has the honor of being picked, be sure to comment and tell everyone what you liked about it!

Welcome to Writer Wars: Family Style

WELCOME TO THE SUPER AWESOME WRITING BLOG!

I was recently inspired by something that the people on Sparklife do every week called Writer Wars. I thought that it was a cool idea and it would be really cool if I started a weekly writing blog for everyone.  What is a writing blog you may ask? Well once a week (or every other week depending on what seems to work for everyone) I will post a story prompt and everyone who wants to will write a response to the prompt in 400 words or less (unless part of the prompt states a different word limit) in the comments section of that post. You can respond to the prompts at any time even if the week is over but it would be cool if a couple people answered the prompts within the week to provide inspiration to others.

Remember these 400 word stories are just for fun, they are not expected to be masterpieces (but when they are that is really cool). They can be silly, fun, used to experiment with a writing style or used to experiment with a voice you haven't used before. Now that everyone knows how it works are you ready to get started?

Well I hope so because here we go with this week's prompt.

Write a short story (400 words max) about a bank robbery. Note: The story can be from any perspective you want; that of a thief, a witness, a cop, a victim, etc.

Note: If you have trouble with the comments email your story to me and I will post it for you. I can also provide step-by-step instructions for how to use the comments if that would be helpful. :)

Another Note: For the first few weeks the posts might pop up on different days but they will probably be regularly posted on the weekends. I will let people know when the post days change.
